I Just Have This To Say....

Being sick and having bad weather is not fair when I have four days in a row off.

It sucks.

Big Time.

Mental Roadblock.........

I seem to have hit a roadblock when it comes to blogging. Been busy running errands and having a life but here's some high and lowlights of the past couple weeks:

The biggest excitement on the island lately has been the surf. There's been an east swell that the people who have lived here longer than me say they haven't seen since the last hurricane (1992). It's been mostly storm surf with the beaches on about 2/3 of the island closed.

But that hasn't stopped the surfers. The swells in Nawiliwili harbor were so big and rough the barges couldn't get in to the dock for several days. The water surged over the sea wall and broke up and dislodged the asphalt road. Jet skis were towing surfers out to the point to catch the waves.

Down the road from where I live the parking lot at both ends of Wailua Bay were closed because the ocean flooded them. Were it not for the rock wall the road probably would have been covered in sand. Where the wall ended there was sand washed right up to the road. Of course this caused a massive traffic jam as everyone was rubbernecking and watching the ocean.

The surf at Kealia was also hugh and crowds were watching that also. Some of the breakwater at Landings was dislodged by the high surf. Earlier this week while driving my son to school there were a couple guys surfing the point by the lookout. I've never seen that in the 4 1/2 years I've been here.

Last Sunday we went to Baby Beach and there was lots of debris from the surf washed up on the beach. We came across a number of sea cucumber still alive stranded on the sand and tossed them back in the ocean. Saw a dead Humuhumunukunukuapua'a fish, lots of driftwood and trash. There were also two huge logs on the beach that were washed back in the ocean while we were there.

The month of November has flown by. Last week I saw fresh Christmas wreaths at a store but couldn't bring myself to buy one. It would be all brown by Christmas. And I think I'm getting a white Christmas tree with lights on already at KMart tomorrow. I've been buying a live 6 foot tree but it's too much trouble to wrap it up and take it to the dump after Christmas. It's just too messy and too hard for me to handle alone. None of my family is traveling this year for Christmas so I don't need a "real" tree.

I bought myself one Christmas present already. Not telling what it is. But I think I'm getting my son a new TV for his room for Christmas. He also wants a Walkman and about a thousand videos. Have no idea what to get my parents.

I'm off, gotta pay bills and get outside.....

Two Toes Still Numb......

Next time I wear those shoes and have to run errands which require a bit of walking I will definitely take an extra pair of shoes with me to wear.

The top portion of two of my toes are still numb.

Hey Phone Company, Suck S***!

I never heard back from the phone company about the phone I wanted to buy that they sent me a flyer on.

So, Sunday night we went to KMart and bought the phone I had seen previously.

It's really cool.

It has a base with a keypad/speakerphone/caller id/etc and other features. The base also holds one handset. Then there'a another handset with a charging base that I have in my bedroom.

And the second handset doesn't have to be plugged into the phone line. Now I can use the phone in my room without having to run to answer the phone.

I also have a phone/fax/answering machine in my bedroom but it's not cordless.

It's the simple things that make life great.

My Toes Are Numb.........

Obviously the shoes I wore today are not made for walking. At least, not for long.

Ever since I got home this evening the 2nd, 3rd & 4th toes on my right foot are numb. All because I decided to run about four errands after work. Which required getting in and out of the car and walking.

I really like these shoes. They're Kenneth Cole. Actually, they're more like slippers with some woven thingies on the strap and a 2 1/4" heel. And they make my feet look skinny. That's important to me. Not that my feet are super wide but I've run around barefoot my whole life (ok, so I did wear shoes to school and stuff).

I Named A Jewelry Piece Today........

Working at a jewelry store can be fun sometimes.

Like today.

One of the designers created a new pair of earrings. And they aren't in the usual style. Much more modern than what we usually make. I tried them on and they are cool. The top element is a moonstone and the bottom element is black onyx. In between is gold. They articulate (in jewelry lingo that means they move).

So they're being featured in an upcoming newspaper ad. All we needed was a name. One of the reasons we name the pieces that are featured in ads is so we can track where customers find out about us.

So anyway, because they have moonstones in them, I thought Mahina (which is hawaiian for moon) was a good name. And everyone there agreed. So that's what we are calling them.

It's Not A Holiday For Me........

I have to work tomorrow. Not that I mind but a day off would be nice.

So while I'm working I'll be thinking of all the veteran's out there.

Thank you for your service and the sacrifices you have made.

Each and every one of you is a hero........

I Really Should Know Better

So I've been hanging out with the ex-boyfriend this week.

What a mistake.

Last night he wasn't even in my house for 15 minutes before I was pissed at him for about 3 things already.

It just kept getting worse and when I told him we weren't having sex he decided there wasn't any reason to hang around so he got his stuff together and headed for the door.

So I picked a fight with him and he decided to stay. I told him I didn't want him to stay and would he please just go. But he refused.

So we go to bed and he wouldn't stop groping me. We argued again and I kept telling him to just go.

He finally did.

This morning was cloudy and rainy. But it cleared up and we went to the beach. It wasn't crowded and the water was crystal clear.

I couldn't live without having access to the ocean. It's my entertainment and my recreation.

Plan for tomorrow: more beach, weather permitting.

It Won't Keep Me Out Of The Water

Yesterday we went to Salt Pond. The water near the shore was kinda cloudy but my son I and went in and played ball. I only thought about the shark attack on the North Shore once while I was in the water. You don't usually see sharks at Salt Pond. It was closed once because of a shark sighting. You're more likely to see monk seals.

After the beach we went to Subway and McDonald's and took our food to Glass Beach to eat. It was starting to cloud over. We headed home and took showers and hung around the house for the rest of the day/night.

When I heard about the shark attack at work Friday afternoon I wondered who it was. When I heard who it was I was really surprised. Bethany Hamilton is a 13-year old surfer whose name I've heard on the radio numerous times. I've probably seen her at one of the beaches on the North Shore and not realized it was her. Seems like all the kids on the North Shore surf. This was a bad attack. She lost her left arm just below the shoulder. What a terrible thing to happen to someone so young. Her life will never be the same again. But she is a strong girl with a strong family and she'll come through this.

This morning I vacummed the house then took a shower. I'd like to get to the beach again today but the whole island seems to be under cloud cover. It hasn't rained but has the look that it may at any time.

I just looked out the kitchen window and there are black clouds over the mountains and I can see two waterfalls. I'm feeling kinda lazy so may just veg out in the house all day. I should get dressed, put on makeup, etc and run errands but I really don't feel like doing that. If we do head to the beach later I'd just have to take the makeup off.

When does life get ecxiting?
