Road to Polihale

Leaving Polihale.....

Sunday we ended up at the beach at Polihale. The drive there is certainly an experience. The road is not paved and full of potholes. But the reward is the beach at the end of the road. A huge expanse of white sand framed by mountains green with growth from all the recent rain. Fortunately it was mostly cloudy. On a sunny day the sand is burning hot. There was a northwest swell and a number of guys were out but not catching a lot of waves. This side of Kauai reminds me of the leeward coast on Oahu. The mountains look much the same as the Waianae mountain range. On either side of the road are grown sugar cane, seed corn and flowers. If you ever go make sure you fill your gas tank, I used half a tank of gas to get there and back.
